What is Ielts ?
A guide providing IELTS information for learners.
What is Ielts ?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an internationally recognized English proficiency test. People take it for purposes such as studying abroad, working overseas, or general communication in English-speaking environments. Besides IELTS, there are other well-known English certificates such as TOEIC and TOEFL.
Many universities abroad require an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher as evidence of a student's English ability.
The IELTS test covers 4 skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The first three skills are taken on the same day in this order: Listening → Reading → Writing. The Speaking test is scheduled separately — either on the same day or up to 7 days before or after.
How long does IELTS take ?
Each skill has a different time allocation: Reading is 60 minutes, Listening is 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes to transfer answers on paper), Writing is 60 minutes, and Speaking is 11–14 minutes.
Because demand for IELTS is high in Vietnam, it is recommended to register well in advance. Currently, both IDP and British Council (BC) in Vietnam offer computer-based testing. Results from computer-based tests are typically returned faster than paper-based ones. You can book online, and the result certificate can be delivered to your address if you select the delivery option.
What is the latest news about IELTS?
One Skill Retake (OSR) is a feature available for candidates who take the computer-based IELTS test. If you are unsatisfied with your score in just one skill, you do not need to retake the entire exam.
You can retake any one of the four skills — Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking — within 60 days of your original test date. You will then receive a new Test Report Form (TRF) with your updated score for that specific skill, without having to redo the other three sections.
What is the IELTS exam fee?
The IELTS exam fee in Vietnam is currently 4,664,000 VND for both Academic and General Training versions (paper-based or computer-based). Payment is required at the time of registration, either by credit card or bank transfer. If you choose to use the One Skill Retake (OSR) feature, an additional fee of 2,900,000 VND applies.
