Simple Present — Negative

When do we use it?

Saying something is not true,

correcting a wrong idea,

describing what you don't do,

and talking about things that don't happen.

I don't drink coffee. I prefer tea. She doesn't work on weekends. We don't live in Hanoi — we live in Pleiku. The sun doesn't revolve around the Earth.

How can we apply it?

Subject + do not / does not + Verb (base form)

Use do not (don't) with: I / You / We / They

Use does not (doesn't) with: He / She / It

⚠️ Remember: when you use doesn't, the verb goes back to its base form — no -s or -es.

Examples

With To Be:

I am not I am not tired.

You / We / They are not (aren't) They aren't ready.

He / She / It is not (isn't) She isn't a student.

With Regular Verbs:

I / You / We / They don't + base verb I don't watch TV. They don't study on Sundays.

He / She / It doesn't + base verb He doesn't like coffee. She doesn't work here.
